Search Underway For Missing Swimmer

A search operation is underway in the waters near the Digby Ferry Terminal.

Emergency personnel was called to the area just before 11 pm Saturday night after reports of a missing swimmer.

A 57-year-old man had gone to the area earlier in the day to swim but did not return home. His belongings were located on the beach south of the Terminal.

The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre dispatched a search and rescue team, and they launched a hunt along with Saint Jon Police, Saint John Fire, the Canadian Coast Guard, and the Canadian Armed Forces along the shoreline and in the waters using a boat and helicopter.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Saint John Police Force at 1-506-648-3333.
