Correctional officials say staff members at Dorchester Penitentiary are conducting an exceptional search at the federal prison.
As a result, a lockdown has been in place since Tuesday night.
The search was ordered to ensure the safety and security of staff and inmates.
Visits have been suspended until normal operations resume.
