Saved! A North Atlantic Right Whale Entangled In Fishing Gear Successfully Rescued

A North Atlantic Right Whale entangled in fishing equipment has been successfully freed according to the Department of Fisheries and Oceans.

The whale was spotted by east of Miscou Island yesterday by the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and several organizations leapt to the rescue.

DFO officers were helped by team members from the Canadian Whale Institute, and the Campobello Whale Rescue Team as well as others.

This incident comes after reports in late June of six dead Right Whale carcasses found in the Gulf of Saint Lawrence.

Results from necropsies of three of the whales are expected next month although preliminary results were released recently.
