The New Brunswick Acadian Society, or, Société de l’Acadie du Nouveau-Brunswick (SANB) is launching a petition demanding the termination of the contract between Ambulance New Brunswick and Medavie.
Communications and Public Relations Liaison Eric Dow says there has been a growing feeling among New Brunswickers that this management deal is not good for the public.
“We’re going to be using this more as a political pressure tactic, to get this into the public conversation more broadly, and try to bring it to the attention of as many of our elected officials as possible,” says Dow.
He says there have been an accumulation of events over the last few years that are eroding public confidence in the service.
“In the recent past, mostly in the northern parts of the province, we’ve seen real tragedies where we’ve seen that insufficient services are leading to loss of lives, regrettably,” says Dow.
Dow says this petition is the result of years of incidents, although he acknowledges the recent flurry of media attention on Ambulance NB and the management deal with Medavie could be considered the ‘straw that broke the camel’s back.’
