Run For Women This Weekend

This Sunday is the shopper’s ‘Love. You. Run for Women’.

Research shows that running and walking is as effective as taking medication for mild to moderate depression and anxiety.

Kristal LeBlanc of the Beausejour Family Crisis Resource Centre says the event is meant to promote mental health, particularly in women.

She says this event is the Centre’s only fundraiser and it plays an important part in being able to offer their services through the year.

Forty thousand dollars were raised during last year’s event.

Canadian Olympic gold medalist Tessa Virtue will be at this year’s event.

LeBlanc says being in an industry like figure skating and having to live up to certain body image expectations can take a tole on mental health.

The figure skater will be there to cheer runners as they cross the finish line.

You have until the end of the month to register for the run, for more information head to runforwomen.ca

You can still register for the run at run-for-women-dot-ca and you can do so until the end of the month.
