Royal Canadian Legion Branch #6 Needs A New Bus To Transport Veterans

Royal Canadian Legion #6 in Moncton is in need of a new bus to transport Veterans to appointments and other events in the city.

Their current bus is over 16 years old, and needs to be replaced. Without it, the Legion would have no way to transport its elderly veterans. Many are patients at the veterans centre next door to the Legion. It is also used to transport them around to social events, Remembrance Day ceremonies, and other activities.

Fundraiser Co-Keith Brewer says they need to raise over $100, 000 for a vehicle that can fit around six wheel chairs and have other seats to spare.

“A lot of them have daily appointments that they go to and there are season events and we also take them out to dinner once a week, and another day they go out shopping,” he notes.

The Legion bus is the only form of transportation they have to get them there, “We’re asking people to join us to secure safe transportation for our Veterans. We needed them then, and they need us now.”

Brewer says their group is run by all volunteers, including the drivers of the bus, and those who assist the veterans while at their outings.
