Preliminary numbers about the cost of a recent agreement between the City of Moncton and the City Hall Employees Association are out.
CHEA voted in favour of the tentative agreement on November 23rd.
Deputy Treasurer Gregg Houser says these rough numbers are being finalized before presenting the updated budget later this month.
“So we’re looking at somewhere roughly around $300,000 per year, for the City per year, for this increase which would include benefits and related things like that that get tied into salaries,” says Houser.
He adds they planned ahead and made some estimates based on their expectations.
“So we put those in a contingency account, you know, assuming we’d settle sooner than later, which, fortunately, we did,” says Houser. “So that was where we were sitting with a certain amount of monies we hoped we’d settle at those values.”
The new four year agreement includes wage increases of 6.5 percent over four years as well as modifications to health and dental plans.
CHEA covers 230 professional, technical and clerical employees, including civilian members managed by Codiac RCMP.
Negotiations had been taking place since January 2017 as the previous contract expired December 31, 2016.
