Riverview experienced a historic surge in residential development throughout 2024.
The town issued last year’s building permit activity reached $137 million—four times higher than the year before.
Residential development drove most of the construction activity with 444 new housing units permitted.
This ranged from single-unit dwellings to apartments, duplexes, and accessory dwelling units.
Economic Development Manager, Shanel Akerley, highlighted that 2024 was the biggest year for single-unit dwellings and multi-unit projects in the last five years.
Two new housing grants launched in July that incentivized the creation of high-demand housing units.
Mayor Andrew J. LeBlanc expressed optimism about the record-breaking construction activity.
“We hope this will help close the gap between housing demand and supply,” he said.
Riverview’s Municipal Plan and zoning bylaw are being reviewed and aim to align future development with community needs.
Planner Sam Gerrand from Plan360 noted that the number of new lots created more than doubled in 2024, suggesting higher levels of development in 2025.
