Riverview grass fire sparked from downed power line

High winds have caused several downed trees and power lines in Greater Moncton this week.

On Wednesday night, Riverview Fire and Rescue Chief Robin True told our newsroom they have responded to at least four wind and weather-related incidents over the past 48 hours.

Just after 5 p.m. on Wednesday, a tree on fire on Coverdale Road was reported after it came in contact with an NB Power Hydro line.

He added that the power line dropped into the ditch and started a small grass fire.

Coverdale Road was closed to traffic in both directions for around an hour while firefighters extinguished the grass fire.
