River Of Pride Encourages Multiculturalism Through Bursary

The River of Pride community is making it easier for other diverse groups to support the LGBTQ community.

They are offering a new bursary for groups representing people of colour, immigrants and newcomers to Canada, or Indigenous persons.

Spokesperson Charles MacDougall says they have over 50 groups registered so far for the upcoming parade, “Some groups may have barriers to participation, so we wanted to offer a bursary so that they could have a fuller participation to the pride parade, and maybe break down those barriers. It is important that we do not leave people behind. We need to make sure we reach out to communities of colour, and to indigenous people and that we say we want you to come with us, and we want to help you out. It’s important that we foster multiculturalism at the parade.”

MacDougall says their hope is to divide it up $2000 in the form of a bursary, to help numerous groups.

The parade is planned for August 26th in downtown Moncton.
