Retailers Want Proposed Recycling Program Changed

The provincial government is being urged to change its proposed programme to recycle electronics.

The Atlantic Director of the Retail Council of Canada, Jim Cormier says the province is planning to do it differently than other provinces which doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.

Cormier says New Brunswick is proposing to hide the recycling fee in the retail price whereas in other provinces, it comes as a separate item on the sales receipt.

If not changed, Cormier estimates it will cost retailers 750 thousand dollars in the first year to conduct business differently in New Brunswick and 250 thousand dollars each year thereafter.
