Residents Are Contributing Ideas And Advice Towards National Climate Change Strategy

Dozens of people are helping the federal government create a national strategy to fight climate change.

Moncton-Riverview-Dieppe MP Ginette Petitpas-Taylor hosted a round table last night at the Moncton Lions Community Centre.

She says it’s important to incorporate the public in decision making.

“It’s not just about government making policy, we need to make policy based on good public consultation and science,” says Petitpas-Taylor. “So from tonight’s consultations I’ll be doing up a report, and delivering that report and recommendations to the Minister of Environment and Climate Change.”

Petitpas-Taylor adds “it’s truly important for us to speak to our stakeholders locally, provincially and nationally, [because] we really need to have a clear picture of what are the challenges and also the priorities locally and provincially.”

She says one of the crystal clear statements to come out of the round table was residents were expecting all three levels of government to work together to tackle this problem.

Petitpas-Taylor says this is only the first of several round tables to come on a variety of different topics.
