Boats from the Moncton, Dieppe and Riverview fire departments could be seen entering the Petitcodiac River last night.
Moncton Fire Platoon Chief Brian Gaudet says a call came in to 911 at around 9:15 last night, with a report that someone may had entered the water behind the RCMP station, “At one point, we had three boats in the water searching the riverbanks, from down around the Irving in Dieppe, as far up as the causeway gates.”
They searched the banks for around two hours, but nothing was found, and the search was called off.
Gaudet says there were around thirteen people total involved in the search that proved to be very difficult because it was dark.
He says the Petitcodiac River is also a challenging waterway to try and get into because of the mudflats, the steep embankments and there is no consistency with regards to the tides.
