Report Released On Bilingualism In Provincial Government Buildings

A report on bilingual security services in provincial government buildings has been released by the Official Languages Commissioner. Her report cites several examples of non-compliance with the Official Languages Act.

Katherine d’Entremont discovered the contract between the provincial government and the security company, the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires, does not contain a provision on the obligation to provide bilingual services. That, she says has to change with regular audits to ensure bilingual service is being offered.

D’Entremont began the investigation last May when she became aware bilingual services were not available at reception in Chancery Place which is one of the main provincial government office buildings in Fredericton.
