New Brunswick’s agriculture industry saw another record-breaking year in 2023, according to the province.
The Department of Agriculture said the industry saw a second straight year of record exports and farm cash receipts.
Farm cash receipts totalled more than $1.2 billion, up from the previous record of $1.1 billion the year before.
In addition, agriculture and agri-food exports reached a record $778 million in 2023 compared to $689 million in 2022.
Agriculture Minister Margaret Johnson said farm revenues in New Brunswick have grown at the fastest rate in Canada since 2018.
“Although these increased farm revenues help drive local economies, it is also important to note that on-farm expenditures have also been increasing, thereby creating challenges on some farms,” Johnson said in a news release.
“My department and I will continue to support the New Brunswickers working in agriculture and agri-food who help feed other New Brunswickers and more than 71 countries around the world.”
Officials said some of the strongest growth in farm revenue came from potato and livestock. The sector also experienced revenue growth from grains, maple products, vegetables and eggs.
Agriculture and agri-food exports were led by potatoes and potato products, according to the province.
