ReConnect Program Struggles To Find New Home

The YMCA of Greater Moncton’s ReConnect Street Intervention Program is struggling to find a new home.

The current landlord terminated their lease early and they need to vacate their current space on St. George Street by the end of May.

Interim director Lisa Ryan says many landlords want to help but are concerned about potential backlash because of their clients.

“Our drop-in experienced close to 6,000 visits (in 2017). I think the increase in clients coming to access our services really put a strain on the community,” she notes.

Ryan says ReConnect is seeking a smaller location and plans to focus on outreach services with drop-in services being offered for the last time on April 30th.

Due to the move, Ryan says ReConnect is no longer collecting clothing and household goods.

However, she adds items are still needed for hygiene kits including shampoo, toothpaste, soap and deodorant.

The program supports individuals who are homeless or at risk of being homeless.
