Finding parking in the downtown can be frustrating, but a high tech solution is now available in Moncton.
HotSpot CEO Phillip Curley says they have released a tool showing, in real time, available parking spaces in the downtown.
He adds in Fredericton, a similar version uses parking garages.
“But in Moncton it’s actually all the metres, so those metres have been implemented in Moncton, they actually tell us if a coin is dropped in, they give us a how long people are there type thing,” says Curley. “So we can actually generate this paid or not paid map from that.”
He says City of Moncton Transportation Coordinator Stephane Thibodeau reached out to them after the installation of the new meters.
“I think he had in the back of his mind that he wanted to get metres that had this capability,” says Curley. “And then the opportunity arose where he kinda approached us and said “Hey, we really want to make sure parking is as convenient as posible, and we have this functionality, would you guys be willing to take this and run with it?”
Curley says there’s no cost to users for this real time map, and they will be adding the functionality to their HotSpot app as soon as they can.
