Reading Can Be Fun For Young People

Literacy rates in the province have been below the Canadian average for several years with concern that young people are not reading enough. Barbara Dianis of Dianis Educational Systems says there’s an easy solution to getting young people to embrace reading and that is to find books and magazines, they are interested in.

For those students who struggle keeping up, Dianis says from her experience, if they prepare by reading ahead, they’re better able to absorb what’s being taught in the classroom.

With math, she says students first have to understand the vocabulary the teacher is using before tackling the concepts.

Dianis overcame dyslexia in her own life using self-taught strategies and techniques to earn a Masters in Education.

She has been awarded The Biltmore Who’s Who V-I-P in Education and the Executive of the Year award as well as the Remington Registry of Outstanding Professionals for her continued leadership and achievement in education.
