RCMP Urge Safety First During Pollett River Run

Mounties are asking people to use common sense if they are watching or taking part in the annual Pollett River Run near Elgin tomorrow.

People will be making their way down the river in small boats and homemade watercraft in what has become a rite of spring for many in the region.

Southeast RCMP Corporal Chantal Ouellette says while floating down the river you should be wearing a life jacket and you shouldn’t be drinking either.

“Members will be patrolling the area. We will also be ensuring that the roadways are clear because that has been an issue in the past. Emergency vehicles have had issues accessing different sites,” says Ouellette.

Ouellette says police will be cracking down on impaired drivers and there will be zero tolerance for open liquor.
