RCMP Say Significant Progress Made In Implementing MacNeil Report

In the wake of the Moncton shootings in June 2014, RCMP are speeding up the roll-out and training of carbine rifles across the country.

That was one of the main recommendations which came from an Independent Review conducted by retired RCMP Assistant Commissioner Alphonse MacNeil.

The Mounties say they have now implemented more than 80 percent of the recommendations in the review.

Commanding officer in New Brunswick, Assistant Commissioner Roger Brown, was unable to provide a cost breakdown but says the federal government is firmly behind the force.

Brown says 25 percent of front-line RCMP officers have received carbine rifle training with a goal of 50 percent for later this year.

RCMP have also introduced advanced shooting drills, enhanced support and training for supervisors, and enhanced Immediate Action Rapid Deployment (IARD) training.

The Mounties say they have also improved services relating to the aftercare of tragedies for officers impacted by critical events.
