RCMP officers cleared of wrongdoing in man’s death

Codiac Regional RCMP have been cleared of any wrongdoing in the death of a man a year and a half ago.

Mounties responded to a 911 call regarding an intoxicated man on Nov. 19, 2022.

The man was arrested and taken to police cells, where he later went into medical distress.

Officers performed CPR on the man until paramedics arrived at the scene. He was rushed to the hospital, where he died four days later.

The Serious Incident Response Team was called in to investigate.

Director Erin Nauss said they found no evidence to indicate any criminal wrongdoing on the part of police.

Investigators said the man was consistently monitored via cameras and visual checks while in the cell, in alignment with RCMP policies and procedures.

SiRT investigates all matters of public interest that may have arisen from the actions of any police officer in New Brunswick.
