A New Brunswick RCMP officer continues to recover after being stabbed repeatedly during a call in Moncton.
“One of the most violent offences that I’ve seen in the six years that I’ve been here at Codiac RCMP,” Supt. Benoit Jolette told city council on Monday night.
Officers were called to a home on Fairisle Drive on Aug. 14 for a dispute between roommates — a typical call for service, according to Jolette.
When the suspect was told he was being placed under arrest, Jolette said a struggle ensued and an officer was stabbed “multiple times in the face, in the neck and in the head.”
“His life flashed before his eyes, as anybody — a police officer or a victim of a violent crime — would,” he said.
Officers had to use a taser two times to subdue the suspect, an RCMP news release at the time said.
A 35-year-old man faces several charges, including attempted murder, two counts of assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, two counts of resisting a peace officer and uttering threats.
The officer was taken to the hospital with what police described as severe but non-life-threatening injuries.
“Our officer is still off work but is doing much better,” said Jolette.
