RCMP issues alert about ongoing phone scams

RCMP continue to receive reports of a phone scam circulating in New Brunswick.

Reports have detailed scammers calling with a false emergency, pretending to be a loved one in distress or as a police officer who has arrested a loved one.

If you receive a call demanding money to release a loved one from jail, police say it’s a scam.

RCMP advises the community to contact their local detachment if they’ve paid scammers with money, pre-paid credit cards, bitcoin or any form of currency.

Police strongly advise the community to not share any personal information and to contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501 or by clicking here.
