RCMP Issue 118 Tickets During Traffic Blitz

Mounties have conducted another traffic enforcement operation in the tri-communities.

Last Friday and Saturday (June 10-11), RCMP issued 118 tickets under the Motor Vehicle Act and three vehicles were towed.

Of those tickets, 32 were for not wearing a seatbelt, 18 for speeding and 12 for using a hand-held electronic device while driving.

Police also charged three people for driving while suspended.

In addition, 56 tickets were issued for infractions such as vehicles with no insurance or no valid inspection.

A number of warnings were also handed out.

The operation was led by the New Brunswick RCMP’s Tactical Traffic Enforcement Unit (TTEU), with assistance from Codiac RCMP.

“We conduct these operations with the goal of keeping our roadways safe and to prevent serious and fatal collisions. We focus our efforts on major factors that contribute to such collisions, like proper use of seatbelts, speeding, distracted driving and impaired driving” said Sgt. Mario Maillet with the TTEU.
