RCMP increases patrols in Greater Moncton after public concerns

The Codiac Regional RCMP says it’s increasing patrols across the region after hearing from residents, business owners, and employees.

Many have raised concerns about safety, especially around open drug use and visible homelessness in public spaces.

Superintendent Benoit Jolette, who leads the Codiac RCMP, says enforcement alone won’t solve these problems.

“Homelessness and addiction are not crimes,” Jolette said in a statement.

“They are complex societal issues that require a community-wide response.”

Jolette says the RCMP is working with municipalities, government agencies, and community organizations to support long-term solutions.

He also emphasized that people facing homelessness and addiction remain part of the community and deserve respectful treatment.

Anyone with safety concerns is encouraged to contact the police or call 911 in an emergency.

Anonymous tips can also be submitted through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), the P3 Mobile App, or online via Secure Web Tips.
