RCMP Continue Investigation; District Supports Those Affected By Lockdown

Codiac RCMP are continuing to investigate after the threat called in to the Anglophone East School District.

That’s the word from District Superintendent Gregg Ingersoll who says there is an emotional toll on both staff and students.

He adds they sent out some information last week and have guidance staff within schools supporting students.

“Some students are more severely impacted than others, so if you had a prior, some sort of traumatic event happen and this may trigger that event for you both students and staff,” says Ingersoll. “So we’re particularly paying attention to those folks in the coming weeks.”

He adds the teachers did the best they could to keep everyone calm.

“There’s no way to hide your fears when you’re an adult when you realize is this really something happening, or is this a drill,” says Ingersoll. “They certainly weren’t told it was a drill so they had to assume it was real, that has an impact on everybody.”

He adds it will be hard to track down those responsible because this is different than the usual threats.

“Oftentimes the threats that we get are either called into the school directly or we find them written on the bathroom wall in a school, or find a note in the school so we have a little more idea the person that did it was actually either a member of the school or currently within the school when it happened,” says Ingersoll.

He says this time the threat was hard to trace and made anonymously all of which combines to make it less likely to find the culprits.

Ingersoll adds the RCMP are pursuing any possible leads and connections to find out who was responsible, and why.
