RCMP Bloodstain Pattern Expert Testifying In Marissa Shephard Trial

An RCMP bloodstain pattern analysis expert is the first witness called in Marissa Shephard’s first degree murder and arson trial this week.

Sergeant Adrian Butler detailed all the bloodstains he found at 96 Sumac Street, starting when he arrived early on the morning of December 18th, 2015.

Butler found bloodstains on a mop head and bucket on the first floor, which he says is consistent with attempts to clean up the blood.

As well, he says the amount of blood and various stains found in the basement led him to conclude the main bloodletting event took place in the northwest corner of that basement.

Butler also spent the beginning of his testimony explaining to the court and the jury the various kinds of bloodstains, their different patterns and what they mean.

Crown prosecutor Eric Lalonde is finished with his questions, and Defence lawyer Gilles Lemieux is beginning his cross examination.
