Rain, Less Wind and More Humidity Needed To Lift Fire Ban

A fire ban across the province will be re-evaluated at 2pm this afternoon, but for now, that ban remains in place.

Provincial Wildfire Prevention officer Roger Collette says they had a bit of rain in parts of the province last night, but he’s not sure whether or not it was be enough to reduce the extreme dry conditions.

He says there are three factors that are taken into consideration when deciding whether or not to life the fire ban, “If we can get lower winds, higher humidity and a little bit of rain.”

An out of control forest fire had residents in the Bouctouche area on edge yesterday. Collette says they believe thy know what started that fire, “We;’re thinking it’s hay bales that spontaneously combusted, because they were fairly green and tightly compacted.”
