Quebec Files Motion For Injunction Against TransCanada’s Energy East Pipeline Project

The province of Quebec has filed a motion for an injunction against TransCanada’s Energy East pipeline project.

According to a government release the motion is to make sure the environmental assessment of the Quebec part of the project complies with the province’s environmental impact assessment and review procedures. Quebec’s Minister of Sustainable Development, Environment and the Fight against Climate Change, David Heurtel, says he clearly told TransCanada it needed to table a project notice for the project and in the face of neglect, the government has taken action.

This following the removal of a port in Quebec from the TransCanada application on Energy East to the National Energy Board and the mayors in the Montreal area voicing their opposition to the project.

The pipeline would bring about 1.1 million barrels of oil per day from Alberta and Saskatchewan to refineries in Eastern Canada including to Saint John, NB.
