The complex process of modernizing the provincial Municipalities Act is underway, according to the Local Government Minister.
Serge Rousselle says his department is working hand in hand with stakeholders to modernize local governance legislation.
Some New Brunswick Mayors, including Moncton’s own Dawn Arnold, had previously asked the government to consider piecemeal legislation to quickly address holes in the almost half century old legislation.
Minister Rousselle says there isn’t any need for that, as he hopes to present the modernized bill at the next Legislative session.
He adds the new bill will give municipalities powers to promote development and become job creation hubs which will support economic and population growth.
