Twelve million dollars was announced today to help boost wages for special care workers.
Those workers include home support workers, family support workers for adults with a disability and community residence workers.
Starting April 1st, they will receive increases that range from 25 cents to one dollar per hour.
Minister of Seniors and Long Term Care Lisa Harris says they want to be able to recruit and retain those working in that sector, “Any person that is working in that sector today, deeply loves what they do, and they have a great care for who they serve. They want to stay in those jobs, but they also need to be able to make a wage that is fair. Today we are able to increase that wage, and it is a step in the right direction.”
There are around 11, 000 home support and special care workers in the province..
