Province Remembers Significant Historical Figure

Robert Pichette is the man who designed the flag of New Brunswick, adopted in 1965.

He passed away on Friday at the age of 83 and will be dearly missed by all who knew and worked with him.

In a statement, Premier Blaine Higgs says Mr. Pichette was an important part of New Brunswick history.

Pichette made many contributions to our province and impacted countless lives.

He was a radio and television host, as well as journalist and author and has countless accomplishments aside from designing the provincial flag.

Mr. Picketed was awarded the Order of New Brunswick and received numerous awards and honours, including two honorary doctorates.

He was also director of cultural affairs for New Brunswick and in this role, he established the provincial government’s art bank.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at the Moncton Cathedral.
