Province Appealing Court Ruling On Browns Flat Elementary, Lorne Middle School

The Gallant Government will be appealing the ruling by the courts that quashed the decisions to close Browns Flat elementary and Lorne Middle School and seek a stay of the order. That from provincial Education Minister and Attorney General Serge Rouselle in a statement.

Rouselle says over the past 15 years student-teacher ratios have changed dramatically, and goes on to say that student enrollment has declined more than 26-percent with less than 100,000 children.

Rouselle says that as these matters are before the courts there will be no further comment from the government.

Meantime, lawyer Kelly Lamrock, who represents parents from Browns Flat and Chair of the Parent-School Support Committee for Lorne Ken Craft, has filed an application on behalf of his clients to get a declaration from the courts that the schools are open and block the attempt to reassign the students to other schools. The hearing will be on Friday morning at 9:30.

On social media, Lamrock says his clients are “disappointed at the Province’s ongoing attempts to waste time and money to beat citizens who dared stand up for themselves.”
