An investment by the City in the Magnetic Hill Zoo is already paying off.
General Manager Bruce Dougan says the City invested $300,000 in the new Amur Tiger exhibit.
He adds the exhibit helped them reach record numbers of visitors this summer, which meant increased revenues.
“Their investment has been repaid in this first year, we’ve seen increased revenues in the same amount or over the $300,000 amount,” says Dougan.
After a budget deliberation meeting over the Five Year Capital Works Program, City Council is now examining moving all three phases of the African Village expansion into 2016.
Zoo General Manager Bruce Dougan says this is an exciting new project.
“We had asked for money for Phase 1 in 2016, but actually now the motion is to move Phase 2 and Phase 3 up into 2016 so we can build the entire project hopefully in one or two years,” says Dougan.
He adds the Boo At The Zoo event this year has been successful with almost 7,000 visitors even before Halloween itself this Saturday.
