Professor Makes Case To Change Name Of Robinson Court

A presentation was held at City Council last night to show why a portion of Robinson Street and Court should be named after Acadian poet Gerald Leblanc.

English professor at the University of Moncton Paul Curtis was one of those who spoke in favour of honouring Leblanc in this way.

Curtis says Leblanc is the most famous Acadian poet of his generation. He says, “He helped to capture the city’s spirit. He helped both French and English cultures discover themselves through the presence of the other.”

This honours both an Anglophone and Acadian in one street and it’s symbolic of Moncton’s bilingual and cultural history.

Others spoke to Council who said Leblanc deserved to be honoured, but not at the expense of changing Robinson Court and Street.
