Presentation Claims Hypersexualized Media Culture Is The Modern Day Pimp

Whether they’re on TV, online, or at the magazine rack at the grocery store, explicit, hypersexualized images are seemingly everywhere.

That message being delivered by RCMP Constable Brandy Steeves and facilitator of South Shore Schools Plus Nova Scotia, Shirley Burriss on how our media culture has become the so-called modern-day pimp with women and girls being encouraged to act like strippers and porn stars.

Steeves says there is a direct link between sexual harrasment and sexual assault and our pornified culture. She says when you have sex offenders who say they don’t have to groom anymore because the media does it for them, that’s a public health issue, a safety issue, a justice issue, and a community issue which needs to be addressed.

Steeves and Burriss speaking at the Atlantic Women in Law Enforcement Conference in Saint John.
