Premier Robert Ghiz Announces Resignation

The Premier of Prince Edward Island is resigning.

Robert Ghiz announced today, one hour before the fall session of the legislature, that he is stepping down.

Ghiz was elected Premier in 2007.

He plans to remain in the role until the Liberal Party can elect a new leader. In a statement, Ghiz said he will not rule out a return to public life.

Ghiz is 40 years old.
