New Brunswick Premier Blaine Higgs is expected to announce new health measures Wednesday to flatten the curve as COVID-19 spreads in every corner of the province.
During a COVID-19 briefing on Monday, Higgs said he would meet with his cabinet and Public Health to discuss the next steps in the fight against COVID-19.
“While we’re able to address the current level of hospitalizations, we do not want to wait until we reach a critical state to introduce changes,” said Higgs.
The premier said he would work with public health to determine which measures are the most efficient, and any new requirements would be announced on Wednesday.
Higgs remained clear that New Brunswick would not move out of the green level, but “everything is on the table” to help limit the spread.
“This includes the possibility of requiring proof of vaccination when accessing non-essential services, businesses and activities. We may also include a requirement for anyone entering the province to register their travel,” he said.
The premier noted that he has not held conversations with his Atlantic Canada counterparts to discuss the recent spike in cases. Higgs said that will change if there are new requirements or changes around the border.
