Premier Brian Gallant Expected To Tout Successes, and Warn Of Challenges In ‘State Of The Province’ Address

Tonight, Premier Brian Gallant is delivering his State of the Province address in Fredericton.

At a speech in Moncton earlier this week, he detailed some of the challenges facing New Brunswick, including thousands of jobs going vacant each year as older workers retire.

Gallant adds up to 10,000 positions will be vacated each year by 2026, but as of right now, only 6,500 young New Brunswickers will entire the labour force each year.

However, he says to put in perspective it’s a better challenge than we’ve faced in the past.

“In the past there was just no work for anybody unfortunately, so things are rolling, things are moving in Greater Moncton, things are moving in New Brunswick, there are jobs available, and now a challenge we seem to be having and we hear it with many businesses across the province is finding the workforce that they need,” says Gallant.

He adds at the moment on NBjobs.ca, there are 2,400 open positions in New Brunswick.

Gallant also pointed out positive economic growth in 2015 and 2016, with analysis and projections for 2017 and 2018 respectively showing continued growth leading to the largest GDP in New Brunswick history.
