Postal Dispute Could Go To Binding Arbitration

Canada Post has agreed to go to binding arbitration…in an effort to resolve the issues currently stalling negotiations with the Canadian Union of Postal Workers.

Yesterday, the Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour, MaryAnn Mihychuk, asked both sides is they would agree to this.

Negotiated settlements are always the preferred option, but it has become clear that after seven months of negotiations, the parties remain far apart on key issues at the bargaining table.

There’s no response from CUP-W as of yet.

Canada Post has agreed to extend the current 72-hour lockout notice Monday at 12:01am to provide the union time to consider this option.
