Possible Third Measles Case In NB

The NBCC campus in Saint John may have an unconfirmed case of measles.

Spokesperson Tanya Greer said they were made aware of the possible case on Thursday.

“The affected student is at home,” said Greer in a statement. “We have been advised that it will be early next week before we receive confirmation of whether this is a measles case.”

Greer said they provided an update to students and staff Thursday morning, which included public health recommendations around measles prevention.

Two confirmed cases of measles have been reported in the Saint John area in the past month — the most recent at Kennebecasis Valley High School.

Earlier this week, New Brunswick’s chief medical officer of health confirmed the two cases are related to one another.

The latest individual was at the Saint John Regional Hospital’s emergency department at the same time as the first patient in April.

Health officials have said adults born before 1970 are considered immune but those born between 1970 and 1995 may not have received a second dose of the vaccine.
