Poll Shows Many Atlantic Canadians Want To Start Own Business

A recent RBC Small Business poll shows more than half of Canadians are entreprenuers at heart and have thought about owning their own business.

The entrepreunerial spirit is especially alive and well in Atlantic Canada with 93 percent of people polled expressing a desire to work for themselves.

RBC spokesperson Steve Noussis says for those who have not yet started their own business, the poll found some top barriers.

“About 44 percent said they had no capital or money to start a business, there was also a need for a steady income, some said they did not how to start and others were concerned about the fear of failure.”

Nousiss adds two-thirds of young people between 18 and 34 have indicated they have thought about owning their own business but almost a quarter had too much debt, namely student loans.
