Police reported crime in Canada rose for the first time in 12 years, according to a report from Statistics Canada.
While concerning, the 5% year over year increase is not as bad as it sounds, since the level is still 31% less than that measured in 2005.
New Brunswick was one of eight provinces registering an increase, at 12%, second only to Alberta.
The Stats Can report shows a spike in break and enters contributed to the increase, but was not solely responsible.
As well, out of 33 census metropolitan areas, Moncton ranked second in increases at 20%, trailing only Calgary (+29%)
