PM Offers Military Assistance To Flood Ravaged NB

Water levels in some areas of the province have reached and surpassed levels last seen during the floods of 2008 and 1973.

Affected areas include the Saint John and Fredericton regions.

New Brunswickers have pulled together in an effort to lend a hand.

Premier Brian Gallant says he has also spoke to Prime Minister Trudeau who also offered assistance, “He graciously offered to bring in the army if it is felt to be needed. We are going to listen to the experts and we will make the decision, but at this point the feeling is that we do have the resources to be able to help New Brunswickers. With that said, this is an ongoing evaluation and things could maybe get better, but things could also get worse than what we are expecting. It is very important for us to stay vigilant and stay informed and to continuously have the discussions to see if extra resources are necessary. There is no doubt, if the army is needed, we will ask for them to come and assist us. We will listen to those on the ground delivering services and supporting New Brunswickers, as to when the extra resources are needed.”

There’s bad news in the weather forecast this morning, with even more rain to come for affected areas. In the northern parts of the province, there is also still snow pack that needs to melt and that could mean more issues in the coming days.
