Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is encouraged by the progress on finding a vaccine for COVID-19.
He acknowledged the good news on a vaccine candidate by Pfizer.
Officials from Pfizer said early data from its vaccine candidate suggests it’s more than 90 per cent effective in preventing the virus.
Trudeau said scientists here and around the world are doing a great job and they expect to see the vaccine next year.
“Between now and then, it’s really really important that we double down on our efforts. We need to make sure we are controlling the spread of COVID-19 in the coming months,” Trudeau said
The PM issued a stark warning to Canadians.
“If you catch COVID in the coming days and weeks, a vaccine won’t help you or your family. We see the light at the end of the tunnel. We are hopeful we are getting there because our scientists are working incredibly hard,” Trudeau said.
He encouraged Canadians to “hang in there” for the next few months by keeping gatherings small, following public health guidelines and staying a safe distance apart.
