A Prince Edward Island woman thought she had won $60 when she bought a lotto ticket in British Columbia earlier this year while celebrating the birth of her first grandson.
It turns out Brenda Bernard of Charlottetown won more than $333,333 after matching all seven numbers from the March 14th Lotto Max draw.
The $1 million prize was shared with two other winners – one from Quispamsis and the other from Ontario.
Bernard says she was visiting her daughter on Vancouver Island when she bought the ticket and thought she won just a small amount when she checked the ticket online after returning to P.E.I.
But when she mailed a self-addressed stamped envelope to lottery officials in B.C. to collect her expected small win, they told her she had won a large prize and would have to claim the winnings in person.
Bernard picked up her cheque in Vancouver recently and plans to take a trip to Hawaii this winter.
