PCs To Hold Several Nominating Conventions This Month

The Progressive Conservatives appear to be gearing up for the next provincial election – whenever that may be.

The party is holding nominating conventions for 20 ridings throughout the province over the next couple of weeks.

Five of those ridings will be nominated Saturday, including the premier’s own riding of Quispamsis.

Others on the agenda are Rothesay, Hampton, Fredericton West-Hanwell, and Oromocto-Lincoln-Fredericton.

Earlier this week, Premier Blaine Higgs said he does not want an election, but he also does not want to leave the government exposed to three byelections which must take place before mid-October.

The riding of Saint Croix became vacant last September after the death of PC MLA Greg Thompson.

Shediac Bay-Dieppe has been vacant since former Liberal MLA and premier Brian Gallant resigned last October.

Bruce Northrup, the PC MLA for Sussex-Fundy-St. Martins, has said he plans to resign before the fall.
