PC’s Also Hold Onto Moncton Southwest and Riverview Ridings

For the first time in nearly a century, it looks like there will be a minority government in New Brunswick.

The Progressive Conservatives won 22 seats in Monday’s provincial election — one more than the incumbent Liberals.

The People’s Alliance and Green party also picked up three seats each.

Progressive Conservative Sherry Wilson was re-elected in Moncton Southwest, beating Liberal candidate Susy Campos by just 253 votes.

Wilson says she is unsure how things will play out in the legislature with four parties, but she is hopeful.

“We can all work together to make the right decisions because Blaine Higgs has said it is going to take all political stripes to work together to fix the province,” Wilson says.

In Riverview, Incumbent Progressive Conservative Bruce Fitch was also re-elected.

“We’re looking at a minority, and it is going to be an interesting outcome. While campainging, we heard people saying that they were concerned that red and blue were not doing what they wanted them to, so they were looking to another option, and that is what you are seeing with the outcome of this election.”

Fitch defeated Liberal Brent Mazerolle who was running for provincial politics or the first time.
