Parade Goers Set To Welcome Santa On November 24th

With just over a month to go until Christmas, many kids are getting anxious for the official arrival of Santa Claus.

The lights are up in downtown Moncton, and with the snow today, it is beginning to feel a bit festive in Greater Moncton.
The festive feeling will officially happen on November 24th, during the annual Royal Greater Moncton Santa Claus parade.

Vice President Alex Morton says the kids won’t have to wait as long this year watching the parade as they have in previous years.

“At last count, we were looking at around 70. It is a little shorter this year, but it is also good because when it got up to the 120 range, it was then over two hours of people standing in the cold waiting for Santa. One thing they wanted to make sure was that the parade was for the kids and that they all got to see Santa,” Morton says.

There will be extra security for this year’s parade after concerns were raised by RCMP and Fire officials in the past.

As for what the weather will be like for parade day this year, Morton jokingly said they are in negotiations with Mother Nature, “Xavier has been on the phone almost daily asking for weather, and I think there has probably been a mix-up because they seem to be trying to get it all out of their system this week. So hopefully for next week it will be absolutely perfect.”

This year’s theme is A Child’s Dream of Christmas.
Around 100, 000 spectators are expected at the 52nd annual parade.
With the Avenir Centre now in place, spectators can take in a Moncton Wildcats game afterwards.
