Overnight Blaze At Stericycle Medical Waste Facility

The Moncton Fire Department was out in force last night battling a blaze at a medical waste facility in Caledonia Industrial Park.

Platoon Chief Paul Bruens says they received a call around 6:30 last night for a structure fire, and on arrival they found the Stericycle building fully engulfed in fire.

Bruens says they quickly adopted a defensive posture, set up their aerial devices and they were on scene for almost 12 hours.

He adds he’s very proud of how well, and how hard the firefighters worked, especially under very cold weather conditions.

Bruens says the fact it was a facility that disposes of medical waste did not make their job more challenging.

The issues they faced were the cold temperatures, establishing a water supply, and properly positioning their master streams around the building to extinguish the fire.

Bruens says there were no injuries, and an investigation will start today to determine the cause of the fire.
